Hi all
I have had my D700 a few weeks now & have just noticed something which I am unsure about.
When I half press the shutter to focus I get a number in Brackets appear in the viewfinder, it is always an R followed by 13, 17, I have since noticed that this same number appears in the control panel where the number of shots remaining is.
Has it always done this, or have I somehow altered a setting I never meant to touch?
I have had a quick scan of the manual, but thought I would ask here before going into indepth reading of said book.

Thanks for any help recieved.

Its how many shots will fit in the buffer... try watching the number as you hold down the shutter release.

If you have large fine jpg and ActiveD turned on the number will be less than it would if you turned jpg off. If you select raw and jpg the number will be smaller etc etc

Thank you very much, I just had a good hunt through the manual & thought thats what it meant, glad you have confirmed it.

So if I am shooting something which requires a lot of continuois shots, then i'd be better selecting a jpeg size rather than raw?

Yes, the smaller the file, the more you get in the buffer. Remember what I said about ActiveD too - because it basically does a sort of HDR type process on the image, and that takes time too. Also you have two continuous shooting modes, low and high - high will fill up the buffer quicker, whereas with low, large fine jpg and activeD turned off, it should shoot forever pretty much.

No problem :D
