Do any of you know how much it generally costs to send a camera off for a service? I.e., how much the actual "labour" costs and then what are the most common things that get added on and charged as well?
Reason I ask is I recently asked fixation uk for a quote to get a D700 serviced (and a lens looked at because I think it's back focusing) and the reply I got was
"it is impossible for us to be able to provide an informed and accurate estimate for servicing without the benefit of examination of the equipment"
Ok, an accurate estimate (oxymoron?) I can expect not being really possible, but an informed estimate I would at least expect. Surely there's 3 / 4 things they often do and could tell me what those would cost and give me a "minimum" informed estimate? If I went to a garage for a quote for a car service they will usually at least give a quote for a basic service while mentioning that obviously if there are other things wrong the price can go up.
Or am I missing something here.
