Yes
Fed up of waiting to add to my D5000 having switched from Canon. By the way the D5000 is an excellent camera - I really really like it and I have used a wide range of cameras (Canon and Nikon).

I have been told that Nikon are unlikely to release an update this year (so says a Nikon UK rep).

So two questions - where is the best deal and what lenses to buy. I do a lot of studio work (models), sports and want to do more macro. I have a total budget of only £3k.

Initial thoughts 50mm 1.4 afs, 105mm vr micro and 70-300mm vr

Nikon D700
17-55 2.8
70-200 2.8

no point buying the 17-55 for a d700, 24-70 is the one you'd use

i suppose the question is how often will you need to shoot in low light?

You gonna struggle to get a D700 plus a 70-200 plus 24-70 for 3k.

I would say 70-200 and the 50 1.4

Cheers Guys

Useful info

Tried the 70-200mm at Focus, Birmingham. A really nice bit of kit. May be a bit out of price range at present though!!

realistically if you're going for a d700 i'd drop the 24-70 and go for the 70-200 with what you've specified you'll do, on a crop it's too long for portraits but ff it's a weapon of choice in a reasonable sized studio but if you're not going to need high iso then go for a d300 second hand they'll set you back about 750-800

if it's a d700 you're after theres a 2nd hand one in the classifieds for 1400ish but make sure you use the right sentence structure in your offer :)
