D700 vs D600/800

I dont need the 36mp, 20-24 is way enough for me so i think ill stick with running it at 20mp for a while, get used to that increase then gradually make the transition to the full 36mp

My research when I bought the D600 led me to believe that this wasn't possible on the D800, it was either 36MP or about 15MP in crop mode and that's it. I stand to be corrected mind.

You can shoot 3 different file sizes in Jpeg, 36, 20 and 10mp

Interesting all these thoughts on what to get.
Having previously used a D700 as one of my wedding cameras I purchased a D800 purely for the second card slot and hate the thing. I shoot weddings and find it more difficult to get good results with than the D700. I use Nikon good quality glass too! I'm on the point of selling the D800 and getting a D600 - less resolution but I don't need that much for weddings!

Indeed. Not a lot more than you'd have had to pay for a D700 only a year or so ago. Looks something of a bargain.

Hang in there, Bailey! And console yourself in the fact that your wife likes the feel of the D600 - it'll mean less earache for you if/when you make the step!

Ive gave my D800 a good run in, I dont see the whole issue of files sizes, memory is cheap! The AF is a (in my opinion) a huge step up from the D700(given its exactly the same AF system as the D4 I expected this), it locks in much better in low light and doesnt hunt! The 50mm 1.4G doesnt hesitate as much as it did on the D700. I find it really handy that the camera will determine the minimum shutter speed based on the lens thats on its focal length, esp the 70-200.

Coming from using the Canon 5D MK2 its the camera I always wanted the D700 to be and then a whole lot more!!!
