D7000 Grumble

I have a D7000, 2 8 gigs memory cards.

Problem i am having is

The camera is telling me i have 225 shots on 1, 8 Gig Card (Raw & Empty) i did a photo shoot today and the camera is telling me i have taken 286 photos and 7 left on the card (Second card is still empty) when i load my card into Lightroom and import i have 389 photos. I put the card back in the camera and hit the play button and it's telling me i have 286 shots. :shrug:

Anyone else having this issue or is it just me?

format the memory card have you got other photos from another camera on there.

4 Gig 111

my d700 does that sometimes it makes different folders cant remeber why now will have a think.

there's only the 1 folder on the card

It's not an "issue", the camera just estimates how many shots are available based on previously recorded images, it's quite common to get considerably more shots out of a card than the camera says you can.

Dunno, but they do, all my Nikons have done it.

Interesting.

Have to admit that I've seen the number of shots left go up and down, that's pretty normal, but I've never known the shots taken total to be wrong on any camera I've owned to date.... I haven't owned a Nikon DSLR though.

this is my third nikon and never had this problem, im hoping its just a one off, will find out friday :/

What the camera is telling you is that, based on it's estimation of the size of each file*, you have enough space left on your card for X number of shots, the camera doesn't know whether you have taken (and stored) 20 photos or 200, all it knows is that you have used Y gb of storage.

To use Nikon's own example, an 8GB Sandisk Extreme SDHC, will hold approximately 291 *15.5GB NEF (RAW), Lossless compressed, 12-bit shots, which isn't far off the 293 your camera is reporting for your card.

If you look at the file sizes for the 389 shots you have you'll probably find that they add up to the same as 284 (plus the 7 the camera reports as remaining) or at the resolution of Nikon's example shots.

Hi, my Nikon D7000 does exactly the same. It displays 225 pics whether I use sandisk extreme's or trancsend 8GB cards. I always shoot in raw but roughly get between 350-400 shots per 8GB card.

I think it displays 225 because thats the minimum the card would hold with maximum detail (dynamic range) in each image.

My Nikon D5000 did something similar ie. displayed 400+ shots remaining, but I could get around 600+ before card was full.

Hope im making sense.
