D7000 menu settings 'un-saving'.

Bit of an odd one this. Nikon have sent me a D7000 for testing during my two week winter wildlife trip to Yellowstone next week, but something strange has happened with it twice now...

EDIT: Right, I'm a fool! Not used to having a mode selector like this, and had turned it to U2 by mistake. What a silly silyl fool I am!

This morning when the camera arrived, I changed a few settings in the menus. Played around with the camera with those settings (focus point selection, focus point wrap around etc) then turned it off for a while. I went back to it and the settings had reverted back as if I never changed them!

So, I set them again. Switched the camera off and on, checked and they were definitely saved. Went back to the camera an hour later and they had reverted back to the original settings again!

I've now set them for the third time and so far they have stuck! But it's a bit odd that it was doing that

Fun little camera though. I'll be taking it instead of my D300 as a backup to the D3s whilst I'm out there in the cold and snow for two weeks, so it'll be interesting to see how it handles the trip! It'll also be interesting to see how hard it is to get used to the 'prosumer' control layout compared to the D300 layout for the controls and settings.

That's assuming the camera isn't playing up and is reverting to factory defaults for some reason!

don't fogret you actually have to make any changes you want - then go to the menu option - save User Setting - then select whether to save to U1 or U2 - if you don't do the save bit it will forget the settings when you move the selector dial.

Yes that's what caught me out. Bit of a stupid move there by me, I hadn't realised I had put it on to one of the U modes. I normally only use A or M anyway so not an issue. But now I at least know what the issue was, so thanks for the tip about exactly how those U menus work - and that you have to save settings to them. Handy to know if I do decide to use them

Yes I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs too! Never really warmed to the D300 that much so it'll be good to see how the D7000 works out. Only thing I'm going to miss is not being able to use the same batteries across two cameras. So I'll have to keep an eye out to make sure D7000 doesn't run out of juice half way through the day!
