I have been mulling over the idea of changing camera bodies, D5000 to a D7000, Originally thought a D90 . . . but its a side ways move, D5000-D90 essentially the same internals where it matters.
So, bite the bullet . . . D7000, Stuart at DD 'got my attention' when I spoke with him yesterday. I semi retire the middle of 2012, so expect to have more time . . . and less money! So I'm planing ahead, no nasty frustrations or shocks that way . . . Mmm, shocks no, frustration . . . :shrug:
I was up for it, ready to go . . . do the deed
Then woke up this morning to a fair bit of snow. I drive a taxi for a living, yesterday, on the side roads, it was a 'Torvill and Dean experience', solid ice!!! today with fresh snow on top . . . no way:nono:
So, I have been wadding through the reviews, again . . . the new one out that I have not seen is 'dpreview':

Well, I can see the good points, however, one thing is worrying me, over exposure in very bright light and high contrast situations in normal metering mode, a problem picked up in DPreview, Amateur Photographer and Digital Photo.
I have always preferred my Nikons, D70s, D80 and D5000, set on a minus EV compensation, usually 0.3 or 0.7, I also find I get more consistency using 'Center Weighted metering' as a general rule. One has been told this is old fashioned . . . but it has works for me.
Any one have a view on this problem, help me move forward . . . ?
Second thought, dpreview, say for the potential IQ quality of the D7000, they suggest using the best glass. Reviewed it mostly with the kit 18-105mm, but suggested it was holding back the bodies ability to render top quality images?
I have a Nikon 50mm f1.8, and an 18-70mm f3.5-4.5, both these lenses have a reputation, or is there better in the heritage list? Thinking that the D7000 has no restrictions on focus drive, any suggestions for an older, 'cheap?', longer lens I can keep a look out for. With retirement looming, I'm thinking of setting up garden feeders for birds, if the weather allows, get to the shops this weekend for feed and feeders? At the moment I have a lowly Sigma APO 70-300mm, I'm sure I can do better?

!!! I have considered staying with the 5000 . . . Live view irritatingly slow to focus, and the viewfinder is letter box size compared to the 90 or 7000. I dont need vid., but thought the swivel screen might be useful for low shots . . . I was wrong! only my humble opinion. Thanks anyway.
