D7000 pop up flash question?

I have just been using off camera flash (commander mode) and am a little irratated. Does the D7000's pop up flash fire in pulses when in commander mode??

AFAIK, it does fire even in commander mode. If you put it to "--" in commander mode it will fire a pre-flash to measure exposure. The pre-flash can still be detected in your photo if you look for it.

It does fire in pulses in commander mode, that's the coded signals, but they're so fast you can see them individually.

It sounds like some kind of red-eye reduction mode you're seeing - check the handbook.

Yeah I checked the handbook, but i think ive tried every available option. Theres a distinct sound from the flash like a "crackle" when it goes off. Just does'nt sound too pleasant.
