Based on your previous experience of model releases, what do you think will happen when the D7100 is released?

Will the price of the D7000 drop like a stone?

I am wanting to upgrade from my D3100 but may go for the D7000 if the price is likely to drop.

Anyone any thoughts??

Thanks in advance

I think initially the price of the D7k won't move very much, if at at all. Over time it may come down a little bit as the D7100 drops in price too. But given the street price today and what you get for your money I wouldn't expect a stone like drop.

I very much doubt it will drop much further.

Probably down to £500 and then stick at the price.

I doubt it'll drop much below its current price in general - maybe the odd promotion or to shift some new old stock.
If you'd bought last week, the lowest price on camerapricebuster.co.uk was £539 on the 5th, but it's now back up to £625.

Comparing the 5100 to the 5200, and using as a yardstick, the price of the 5100 has not dropped any further from the last drop, which was a couple of months before the 5200 actually released.
So I'd project £570-600 is the D7000's base price irrespective of what the D7100 does.

Excellent, thanks for the replies Guys.

Now I guess I will wait until the D7100 is released and see what "normal" folk are saying about it!

I am of to NYC in April and B&H have the D7100 listed as $1100 body only, so I'll make a decision in the next few weeks.

Doubt it will drop any less that £500. The D90 held its price very well even after the D7000 was released.
