Hiya guys,

I've upgraded from the D3200 to the D7200 and I'm struggling with the focus settings, is it not possible to get the camera to auto focus but also be able to choose the focus point? I've found if I use the switch on the camera to turn auto focus off which allows me to choose my focus point, but I also want the camera to auto focus!

My D3200 you could choose the focus point and it would focus, am I missing something critical or is it just a case of one or the other?

Do you have focus lock on? The wheel with L along side it on back right side of LCD

Hiya,

Sorry no it's not on, I see this locks it in place when it's in manual mode, but does not auto focus the lens like my D3200, is it a case the only way to choose the focus point is to have the lens auto focus off?

Not sure I fully understand, but if you look through the viewfinder you see the red sq.
If you press the toggle up, down, or either right or left, you should see the focus point move.

And press the left button in (where the manual focus switch is left side next to lens mount) and scroll back wheel when looking in finder it will scroll focus modes try af-s single then move the back cursor afterwards to see if it moves

It's in AF on the switch right now, and in Af-S(as you said to try this) but it chooses the focus point for me, if I put it in manual mode I can choose the focus point but the lens doesn't auto focus

Thank you very much I've got it had to press the AF side button and twirl the front ! Really appreciate all your quick replies I knew I wasn't going to get any sleep if I didn't figure this out
