d750 flash wont allow shutter speed above 1/200

when using onboard flash and in commander mode to fire a speedlight sb-r1 setup i cannot set shutter speed above 1/200 ,is there a setting to alter cheers guys

thought ide had same problem on my d7100 and altered a setting in the menu cant remember which though any help please
 
Sounds like you're after the auto FP setting on flash sync speed. After a quick google it seems to be custom setting E1. You'll probably have it set at 1/200 and there should be the option above it for 1/200 (Auto FP) and possibly a faster one maybe 1/250(Auto FP). It basically means that 1/200 will be the fastest speed useable under normal flash scenarios, but will enable high speed sync if you push the shutter speed faster :) (providing you're using a compatible flash, which it seems the SB-R1 is)

I don't have this camera but it seems to have been the same across varying Nikon bodies I've used :)

Is this for real?

Make sure that the camera is set to Auto FP (either 1/200 auto FP or 1/250 auto FP) and make sure the pop up flash is set to -- and not also set to fire when using CMD mode. The pop up flash cannot go above the 'normal' sync speed.
 
Yes it is for real.... He's talking about the sb-r1 being used for high speed sync, as am I? :confused: The pop up flash is just being used as the commander, not as a high speed flash itself?
 
Just had a quick play on my D700, you need to remember to disable any other mode for the built in flash or you'll be stuck at the 1/200, 1/250 mark (whichever is fastest on the d750) so choose commander, then for the built-in flash choose the -- option. As said above

It's ok, just me doing my usual not reading things properly, thought you said push the shutter button faster :LOL:
 
oh, and that's what I said about disabling the pop up and setting it to -- ;)
 
:lol: that's properly tickled me that has, it's a good job that isn't the case otherwise I'd never get above 1/30 or so!
