D80 Lens Recommendations

I've just bought a second-hand Nikon D80, as my first DSLR. It was body-only, so I'm looking for recommendations as to what sort of lens to buy. I'm looking to spend between £100-150.

Would something like a Nikon AF-S 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR be a good idea? Do I need the VR? If not, my local camera shop has this lens http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/Used/Nikon-18-135-AF-S_36245.html ?

As you can probably tell, I'm a complete beginner (sorry!), so any advice or pointers would be great.

The 18-105 is better optically and you will be grateful for the VR. In any case the extra 30mm in the long end could be substituted with a bit walking

If you can bring yourself to spend a bit more (£200+) the 17-50 Tamron without VR is an excellent.

I had the 18-135 as part of the kit with my D80 when new and sold it pretty quickly, didn't think it was anything special. Replaced it with the Tamron mentioned above.
