D80 question

Hi All

I was in a second hand shop today and the guy behind the counter was playing around with a Nikon camera. I asked him what model it was and he said it was a D80 - after looking on the front to check lol.

He said it has the 18-70mm lens (kit lens I assume) with it so I asked him how much it was - £200

Now looking around the bay of fleas etc this seems to be a bit of a bargain. Should I be back there first thing tomorrow and snapping his hand off ?

Would it be a step forward from my D40 ?

It would definately be a step up from the D40. It has considerably more functions, can take non-AFS lenses, twice the resolution, more Auto Focus points...the list goes on. Obviously it's not as big a step up as something like the D700, but I love mine.

£200 strikes me as a very good price for this camera at today's prices. Most places I've seen it on sale for, body only, seem to have it on sale for £250 - £300. I paid £550 for mine two years ago. It's still my main camera, and I've got some great results with it... I find it's got everything I need. Simples.

Seems like an excellent price - if all is working as it should then I'd bite his hand off for it!

Depending on condition, actuations, etc. That is an absolute steal. Although worryingly cheap:thinking: The 18-70 is actually quite a good lens and i think sells for around £250 on it's own.

I had a D80 and a 18-70 and was very happy with it. I would give it a very good check first. Also see if it comes with a 3 month warranty from the shop.

The D80 would be a very good step up from your current model; there's a lot of D200 in the design/gubbins/functionality of it.

As above, check out the condition of it & confirm the number of actuations, and, (obviousley) give it a full serviceability check. Blimey, a D80 with that glass on the fronnt for £200 !!!

Had a look this morning and its a D70 with the 18-70mm AF-S lens attached !

Is this still worth £200 ?

I sold my 18-70 lens for £150 on here last week although it was mint, under 3 mths old and with box etc... as new. Chances are that will not be in the same condition but as long as the lens is tidy and no dust I would say £100 for the lens. No idea on the d70 but surely that is worth over £100 on its own.

Again it depends on condition etc. As long as it's not been abused and doesn't have too many actuations (shutter releases). Yes it is still a good deal.

Is it better than a D40? With the setup you have? Not really. Very good for infared pics though.

Depends what you're after really but £200 for that setup is a good deal.
