D80 with "err" message.

Ok so my old mans camera is giving him an "err" message, its shooting, won't save images tho. We have tried numerous formatted memory memory cards, fresh batteries, numerous ones. And as recommend by nikon a full reset. Still nothing.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it common or just a camera giving up the ghost?
Any info would be greatly received.
But don't bother yourself with answers such as buy a canon or upgrade (he also owns a d3) or anything else witty
(edit, we have tried all his lenses and cleaning the contacts)

Yes he has tried all his lenses but with no luck.

Quick read up says that turning off, taking the battery out and leaving if for twenty minutes may sort it,could be worth a try.

Err can mean lots of things from not so serious to fairly serious.

They can go away and then come back. If they don't go away or come back then you need to have Nikon take a look. There's a chip inside that records what raised the error condition so even if it has cleared they can check.

At a guess you might have a bent pin in the card slot. 20 min battery drop won't do much that a hidden button reset will miss.

I have a D3 with an Err on my desk right now waiting for Nikon to come back from their holidays. We suspect it needs a new shutter.

Ditto! Shutter stuck and mirror held up. Nikon are working ... spoke to them this morning and got a returns number/mailing label by email within about an hour.

Well he ain't got back to me yet and we did mention that having nikon look at it might outweigh its cost, will keep plugging away tho lol you never know

Touche! However my e3 is pretty rugged so i doubt I'll be getting it repaired any time soon.

Didn't think of it until you mentioned it lol
Im pretty sure I'll damage a lens before the body.
