D800 Which battery grip?

pixel? I had a meike but as the Nikon contacts are on the bottom and not in the battery compartment the base plate of some grips bends and thus not giving a very good connection. to be honest the design of all the grips for Nikons suck as the grip only holds one battery. I use one but its a pain in the arse.

James I use "Pixel Vertax" third party grips with my D800 cameras and they all work just fine providing they are used with genuine Nikon batteries. Other members of my staff have tried to use the same grips with non genuine batteries and the cameras would not recognise the grips. Apparently it's something to do with a fairly recent firmware update. There is a thread somewhere on the forum to this effect, I think it was instigated by Joe Turner.

Thanks for the help George, I will take a look into that and make sure it's used with genuine batteries if and when I get one! Is the build quality decent? I found one on amazon which is magnesium and plastic to match the d800 body think that was Phottix?

I bought a Nikon grip as well. Why? if something happens to the camera and it is down to a third party reason it might have questions asked under repair. Why spend out nearly £2000 on a camera then cheapskate on a third party battery pack? makes no sense to me

No problem James with the build quality etc, and the cosmetics match the D800 perfectly. I use my units professionally virtually every working day and have never had a problem with any of my units.

Can it be used with AA batteries or does it have to be the standard Nikon battery?

James the grip can be used with AA batteries as it comes with an AA Battery Holder.
I've never tried using normal AA non rechargeable batteries in the grips so I'm unable to answer if the camera recognizes the grip with normal AA non rechargeable batteries inserted.
My grips work perfectly though with AA "Duracell Rechargeable" batteries.

Nikon do not make batteries or any other accessories, they farm the work out, stick a Nikon badge on and charge a %.
I f you want to buy OEM stuff,then fine, but the third party stuff is as a good if not better in some circumstances.
