There is a nasty halo along the right side #3…
must be a jpg compression artefact. :(

I think these may be over sharpened also the blues look quiet noisy in 3 which may also be due to the sharpening, I would be interested to see crop 3 without and post production.

i think 3 looks fine
think your striving for perfection which is probably unatainable
how many pixels are in the 100% crop pic can't be to many

A calculation would be useless as the final posted
picture is down sampled to 1200 px wide not reflec-
ting the actual resolution but giving an idea of what
can be achieve, Grahame!

Just by curiosity…
#1 is FF and, when converted to 100% jpg @ 300 ppi,
it would be (8256 x 5504 px) 27,52" x 18,35".

When published at a lower density… GINORMOUS!

It looks like the kind of outline halo you often get with auto-masking. Did you use auto-mask to cut-out around the bird, and then a shadows lift? I often get better results by cutting-out manually with a thin feathering (haha :D) and slight overlap. Depends on the subject though, and how much you push the brightening, can be hard to avoid.

Amazing quality from that camera though (y)

Would one need to lift the shadows on the first file (SOOC), Richard?

Is the halo outline also on the SOOC image? It's too small to see.

I doubt it… as it was not down sampled so heavily.
OTH, brush haloing when masking or auto masking
are not so regularly thin.

Edit:
The halo is not there in the 100% crop CO Pro window!
