D90 + 18-200 + internal flash = shadow lines

when at 18mm with the internal flash I've just noticed it catches the 18-200mm lens as there's shadow lines from the lens at the bottom of the pics, anyone else have this setup and notice this too?
 
just that i've never noticed before, even having this setup for quite sometime

I've noticed this with the hood attached, remove the lens hood, the problem is gone.

I usually turn the hood round so that its on backwards, so it don't get misplaced and is always there to use if needed.

when using an external flash on the hotshoe, the problem doesn't show when the hood is used

Interesting.... FWIW, I noticed you are using the Nikon version of the 18-200mm lens, I use the Sigma version, which might be the reason I'm seeing something different, but along the same lines of the problem you're having, if you have an external flash gun (or you know someone you can borrow one from) give it a try to see if that corrects the problem.

It may be that the lens barrel is just slightly too long causing shadow.
 
yeah i do have a sb600, but when out and about i don't always have it to hand
