Yes
just looking at battery grips, can't afford the official OEM so does anyone have experience with the ebay specials?
This one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VERTICAL-BATT...ography_DigitalCamBatt_RL&hash=item2a076e35d3
is a YXTM which I know make fairly decent ones, I had one that came with my old D40 when I bought it from here but never used it but it felt alright.
But this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LCD-BATTERY-G...ography_DigitalCamBatt_RL&hash=item27b4ab8a7d
looks pretty interesting, with the intervalometer plus a few extras such as AF point select but not sure what make it is and if its going to look cheap and nasty?

Link delight ones are highly recommended, and many people say theres not really a noticeable difference in the two....

I've just bought one used from here....would tell you what its like, but due to royal mail being idiots, its sitting in our local depot waiting to be picked up! :( Cant wait to use it! :)

hm ok thanks guys. Are they really worth it? I mean..everyone harps on about them like they're the best thing since sliced chicken.
Basically I have £70 to spend after selling my 50mm f/1.8, and yes I am spending money for the sake of it
but do I buy a battery grip that I don't need and some cokin filters and a holder that I don't need, or save for a Tamron 90mm Macro that I also don't need?

Some like them, some dont - they look lke they'd come in handy for portrait stuff because of the extra shutter release button.

I wanted it for that purpose, and also to balance out the weight for the 70-200 :D

hm ok thanks for that, tbh I shoot landscape mostly so maybe a grip wouldn't be the ideal option.
bah I just have the money there and want to spend it

Just get one, and if you dont like it, sell it on! ;)

Put a wanted ad up for one or keep a lookout on the classifieds for one...grab yourself a bargain :D

and then save up and buy the tamron macro that you dont need! ;)

I'm looking to buy one too, But I still cant decide on 3rd party or Genuine. Some people seem to think they are even made in the same factory and some just branded Nikon!!

Buy one, decide you don't like it, then sell it to me for half the price

Seriously though, any chance you could borrow one for a short while, just to see how you feel about it.

Get an extra tenner together, head on over to the classifieds and buy my official one :D

Looking at that first quote, I have to wonder why you're thinking about one for your D90 when you never used the one for the D40 when you had it.

Not everyone likes grips (I'm one that dislikes them) - and it sounds like you may be another who's not so keen, in which case it may end up in that drawer full of "nice idea" gadgets. Since your interest lies in landscapes, I would consider a Cokin holder and some slightly better fiolters to go in it rather than a grip.

see I bought the D40 and it included the battery grip but wasn't attached - I took one look at the battery door and thought forget that! wish I had tried it out now to see what it was like :( I sold it though since I thought at the time the money would be more useful

well..ahem :$ my interest doesn't necessarily lie in landscapes, I'm still finding my feet on what I like tbh! but I tend to shoot naturally in landscape orientation just because of the viewfinder being that way and stuff then if a picture calls for being in portrait I do an aspect-ratio-maintaining crop
don't get me wrong, I do like landscaping but whether I'd like to spend £70 on filters when it could go towards a Tamron macro is another matter. But then again..I buy the macro to try out real macro photography and possibly find out it's not my 'thing'. I've got a Raynox which I've used a couple of times and its so great but I just don't know if I can be creative enough to find subjects.
And I've got a cheapo ND Grad supposedly in the post but its been over a week with no sign :bang:
