If you have Flickr, upload a jpg straight out of camera and it'll tell you on the EXIF 'more info' page. If not, a program such as Opanda will tell you.

I think that is just telling you the file number, which is OK if you have had the camera from new and option d7 on the menu is set to 'on'
If this is set to 'off' it resets the numbering to 0001 when the card is formatted
