D90 Colours

Hi all I was attempting to do a little floral photography last night, I had a bunch of sunflowers and some nice purple plants but, the orangey yellow sunflower petals never came out orange enough and looked a weak yellow while the purple flowers came out blue looking yet the background was perfect, now before you say its my white balance I actually did a manual White balance on the d90 to get it perfect, so I played with the settings and added some red, it made the flowers purple so perfect but the sunflowers still looked a little too yellow yet the back ground now was too red, I gave up and left stressed, any ideas?

would it be possible to post some samples?

i don't know about the specifics of the D90, but did you shoot raw? or did you use jpeg?

if you used jpeg are there any in-camera processing or picture styles set (on my Canon, you can play around with the colours to some extent)

In raw, it should be easy to achieve what you want in that you have complete control over the saturation and hue of the individual tones and it's not unusual for the colours to look a bit 'off' by default.

Without seeing the offending pictures, it's hard to say.

You mention a red background, if there is bright red in your image it can often come up a little hot.

Underexpose slightly, -0.3 to a stop if you want to increase saturation. This works for most shots.

Then as suggested tweak individual colours in post, you will need to shoot raw though.

I shot in jpeg fine, and I used the RGB colour space since it's larger.
Unfortunately I deleted the pictures in anger.
Sorry the background was silver, what i meant was after the purple flowers coming out blue , I decided to change the custom white balance and add more red, while this fixed the purple flowers the background then went redish due to the change yet the sunflowers stayed a dull yellow.

Ok so just to show u my problem I looked for something close to purple, its more pink but it still shows the problem, the first image is with a correct custom white balance the second image shows the closest I could get to the correct colour by changing the white balance around but you can see the colour cast created by it.
Wow ok I just put my sd card in and took a look at the images and to my surprise my colours look alot more like real life now in the correct wb setting, it must be the screen on the d90 can't display them correctly? I don't have a clue , how odd.
