Yes
Are they worth it,
Whats the advantages/disadvanteges (apart from weight and bulk)

looking into get one would i be better with an official nikon one or would a "fake" be ok.

Better handling, Better battery life, vertical controls.

Extra weight and cost.

Those are the pros and cons, and having a grip myself, it's so worth it. I now can't use my camera without it. :D

Oh, and also, you definitely look at least 73% cooler as well. :naughty:

Got one for my D300. Hardly use it. It does make handling easier but it can also get in the way.

thought i'd continue this thread rather than starting a similar one, hope the OP doesn't mind!

i have the nikon mbd80 grip for my D90, which generally works fine. i was aware of the contact issues before i bought it and have placed the suggested strip of card in between grip/body to help improve connection.

one question... when one of the 2 batteries runs down, does the grip automatically start using the 2nd battery? i noticed the other day that one battery was just about expired, but the camera kept cutting back and forth between full charge & empty battery... as if it was flicking between the two?

i swapped the batteries around, at it worked fine again, but just wondering if i should have had to do that, or if it was an issue with the grip itself (ie. the connection).

anyone else get these d90 + mbd80 issues?

had connector issues with mine, just straightened the connectors a little inside the camera and never had problems since...

never noticed the battery thing, will try and run one down over the weekend...

daft question alert... is it the connector in the body, or on the grip which needs 'tweaking'?

is the connection in the body just a metal plate?

edit - just found this... messages at the bottom seem to explain it?

there are three pieces of metal sticking out inside the body, when I compared it to another D90, noticed that mine weren't sticking out as much so just adjusted it slightly...

you can also tell whether contact is being made as I now have small scratches on the surfaces of the three metal plates on the grip...

hope that helps..?

does anyone have a pic of how the 3 connectors in the camera should look when working fine. i've tweaked the middle one a little (being careful), but still having connection problems when using the the grip :(

I reckon there's a decent one for sale at a good price in the classifieds right now :whistling:

hehe, but i don't think it's the grip that's the problem :)
