D90 in live View not focusing?

Recently picked up a D90 and have been playing around with it.
Ive noticed that when trying to take stills in Live View mode the camera wont focus on anything?

Ive tried both my tamron 28-75 and Nikon 35mm both set to auto focus but nothing. I'm presuming i can still have the camera on manual mode and focusing should work?

Focusing through the viewfinder is fine.

have you tried it in more than one mode ie Auto/Manual and a priority mode?

which liveview AF mode do you have it set to, try it on normal AF..

have you tried resetting your shooting options ie pressing the 2 buttons with green dots next to them. might be worth a try.

Can we assume it focusses alright normally - when looking through the viewfinder, that is?

It is much slower in live view... but it will still AF.
