Yes
I normally use fine compression, but since I will be taking a large number of pics that I will need to upload, the smaller file size given with normal compression will be beneficial.

Will I lose much in quality by using normal compression rather than fine?

Personally Id prefer a drop in resolution rather than an increase in compression. Compression can make even small prints/files look awful.

they are to be uploaded to photobox for printing probably at no more than A4

Personally I would take them at full resolution/low compression, you'l never know if you need to print them larger. You can resize them to 300DPI at A4 before you upload or just wait a little longer for the upload!

file size comes down from best part of 6mb to about 3mb. Will be taking some pics tomoz so we will see how it goes.

Could you not just take them at the highest setting possible and just let the big upload run overnight.

Guess so, no reason why not, just looking at the alternatives. Ken doesnt use fine jpegs just basic........
