D90 vs D300s

Hi,
I was thinking of upgrading soon and as the D300s is getting a free grip at WHE, but is it really worth it? Is there really much different between the two, I tried to use the search but only had threads for D300s vs D7000 or D90 vs D7000. THanks for any help :)
 
What do you shoot with your D90 at the moment?

If its action photography then the D300S is a big leap forward, your keeper rate will go up quite a bit.

If its not, then maybe its not for you as the other advantages aren't nearly as big.

Maybe movie mode will do it for you?
 
I try and shoot most things, landscape, macro, portrait, airshows and surfing. No real action sports like F1, moto GP etc Hmm movie mode doesnt bother me, the movie mode on the D90 is just used fr my little baby growing up. Thanks
 
Probably not worth it and they are giving free grips to collapse the stock before releasing the replacement... gawd knows when that will come though - later this year or sometime next.
 
I have the glass that I need just wonder if upgrading the body would just move my photo's to the next level (kinda lol) hmmmm

I had a d90 and d300s together for a while, looking through the pictures I took you would struggle to notice any difference between them. Save your money!
 
A d300s is for me the best out of the three. If you can afford it, get it. Very nice camera
 
Brendan go to dpreview.com and click on the camera/lens database and then choose side by side camera comparison and choose the D90 and D300s from the list and you can the compare them side by side.

Its a great site, I've used it quite a lot.
 
Dare I throw the 'why not a D7000' question into the mix? But, no matter what body-wise, a gripped body in most shooting situations is still an ideal as it feels better 'in the hand'...having switched from a gripped D300S to my current toy, I can confirm you'll like it. The WHE deal is a good one.

Must agree, if I ever take my grip off I can't really get used to it. D300s is a cracking camera and I like having all the controls easy to hand. D300 is also very good and a bit cheaper.

I think you would notice a difference in ease of use and performance and with a grip it will be much different in the hand.

Going on a course would be a better use of your money than buying a poor upgrade to the D300 and expecting your photos to improve.

If you're pushing the limits of the D90 in terms of shutter speed, AF etc then maybe but doesn't sound like you are otherwise you would have started 'the D90 doesn't do this, this and this...how can I resolve?'

The only reason for anyone to buy a D300s is because they can't find a decent D300- movie mode- buy a canon:lol:

I have to agree with Scott. I upgraded from a D5000 to a D300s, the AF is brilliant for my rugby photo's and its weather sealed for those nasty cold wet winter afternoons.

I have read a good few reviews on the D7000 and if I was upgrading now from a D5000, I would seriously think about the D7000 for the high ISO alone.
