Hi,

I've just been given a Sigma 70-300 APO lens for my sony, however the front element has a mark on it.

Is there anywhere that can repair it and would it be worth it?

depends on the size of the 'mark'... what type of mark is it? dent? scratch? crack?

To be honest, there was a thread recently showing that glass doesn't have to be spotless to get exactly the same images from them... some people are quite/excessively anal about the cleanliness of the front and rear elements but other than for resale value that worry is unfounded.

Rear element can affect quality quite badly as it projects the actual image. Front is not that important, but dents suggest further mishandling of the lens.

ah I see :D I'm just going on based on personal experience, my 85 had been mishandled by myself and had a lovely finger print on it yet the IQ didn't appear affected, but thinking about it anything serious would be a bigo concern, cheers for point that out :D
