During a friends wedding my Sigma 17-70 suffered a little bit of damage causing by it falling. The lens zooms and focuses find all be it it only works in manual because it won't lock onto the body. I was wondering if anyone knew if the bayonet ring is interchangeable, because I have a few old lenses in a cupboard and was thinking about swapping the ring over. I may also use it as an excuse to convince SWMBO to get me a 24-105 L IS or maybe a 24 70 f/2.8 in preparation for going full frame in the new year ;)

considering the bayonet mount is the same for all eos fit lenses it would be just a question of if the mount screws are in the same place on the doner lens and everything else is in the same place
if you have an old lens you are willing to pull apart it would give you an idea as to whats involved swapping them over

I took a couple of shots with it after and focused manually. The pics looked ok, however I can see a 24-70 f/ 2.8 falling into my bag in the near future. I've still got the good old kit lens for anything wide in the short term

Could be worth a call to Sigma to see how much a repair would be - maybe make the decision to buy a new lens easier ;)

The new Canon 24-70 F4 seems to be getting very good reviews and I'd read it's rumoured to be packaged as part of a kit soon ...
