Damaged screen!

Hi guys,

I've recently managed to damage the display screen on my Samsung s850 compact camera. Although it doesn't affect the images and is only 5mm in size, it's really beginning to bug me!



I suppose it's taught me a lesson - keep it in a proper case rather than just throwing it into my handbag!

I've been told it's pressure damage, and my local camera shop has quoted £70 to get it repaired

As the camera only cost £79.99, I'm a bit reluctant to spend so much.

Does anyone know of anywhere I can get a better price for replacing the screen?

Hi Janet - Just round the corner from me eh. Can't suggest another source as most will get the replacements from the same place. It may be wise to ask Santa for a new one

Santa is currently saving up to buy me an e5, so I don't think he'll pop a new one in my stocking this year!

It isn't a major problem, as the camera still performs beautifully, but I was absolutely gobsmacked at the repair price. It's still under warranty, but this sort of accidental damage isn't covered, unfortunately.... :bang:

Can anyone tell me, is this what I need and is it indeed possible to do it as a DIY job? I wouldn't attempt it myself, but I have a friend who is very handy with a screwdriver!

I scraped/scratched the screen on my Canon A640 by constantly sticking it into my pocket when I was working, without reversing the screen and closing it. My own fault - just laziness. Canon's agents in South Africa wanted 1400 rand (about £120) to replace it. The dealer reckoned it was a rip off and said most of the agents didn't want to do repairs, and would rather you bought a new camera. Makes sense in a way, but annoying. It still works perfectly, and I won't bother replacing the screen unless I can get a deal on a broken camera that I can cannibalise. There are instructions on the internet on how to replace the screen if I ever decide to chance it.
