Sitting here tonight just thinking, I'm bored and looking for something to do :banghead:. Which made me realise something and that's that I must have 2 of the most frustrating hobbies it is possible to have at times. I dread to think how many £1000s I have tied in up in photography gear now, mainly lenses but a decent camera nowadays too. I also have a motorbike, which I took the battery off of last night as motorbike batteries don't do well just sat on the bike over winter. I'm not a fair weather only biker but I do like to keep my bike nice and there's salt down on the roads here now, so my bike will be mothballed for a while :crying:.

So those are the 2 hobbies that whilst often, are very rewarding, sometimes they just leave me longing for something to do. I could do some tabletop or get some lights and have a dabble with studio but whilst I have respect for both genres, they don't really float my boat.

Getting out there isn't easy at the best of times and is now more difficult with the shorter daylight hours (and it's only going to get worse for a while:runaway: ), with the weekends being the only real opportunities to get out.

So apart from longing for longer daylight hours, or the weekends, which might provide early morning opportunities, what else is there to do? :coffee:

Answers on a postard please.

You could go over your older photos and re-edit if they need, tastes and editing skills change and improve over time. It’s amazing how many decent shots can be overlooked and you wonder why you processed others instead. As well as photography I’m into motorsport and like to do a bit of sim-racing. Lots of fun and a lot of carry over into real life driving with the right sims

Look forward to the weekends and make sure you go out!

I rarely photograph in the week anyway regardless of the day lengths as I'm usually too busy. The only exception to that is night sky photography which is only a handful of times....

I've got a Mk1 Escort, had it 23 years! At its MOT last month I'd covered 271 miles.....

Fly south for the winter.

or, for a slightly cheaper option...
Editing, macro, still life, Astro, light painting......

Same (bike) problem here but having a small off road trail bike for winter helps, not bothered about it getting salty and muddy in the slightest, but in fact it's holding up well after six years now.
A lot of landscape photographers like the more atmospheric conditions of winter, and there's no doubt when the sun is out the light can be lovely, who doesn't enjoy a bit of mist and frost..

Do something different entirely or nothing at all and recharge those photography batteries.

Or maybe discover and improve Photoshop Editing skills

Like this image I did a while back all my own images - can you work out how?

Another vote for getting out and getting some night shots. Light trails, city centre lights and reflections, even moonlit landscapes can be nice.

I’ve got the same issue, albeit sporfs car that I don’t like getting salty, rather than a bike.

I definitely want to give astro photography and water droplets a go. Also fireworks photography this weekend!
