After months of deliberation and having read the whole of the web twice, yesterday I went out and bought a Canon 7D / 100-400 / 24-105 / tamron 90 to replace all my Sony gear.

Got a headache trying to suss out the button / menu layout but I have bought it now so no going back. It was a close call between the nikon d700 and the 7D but the Canon won out in the end as handling both it just 'fit'.

Quite excited now ;) virtual beers all round, help yourself

Nice one, i left the sony camp, & went the Nikon route, you wont regret the upgrade once you are used to the buttons etc.

Ill have a virtual Guinness with you then if you dont mind:beer:
 
Nikon you haven't purchased so on the dark side you are not, no :p

Enjoy the camera - that's going to be my next body of choice :)
 
You should have waited for the sony A77. 24mp on a crop and 12 fps. Oh well, still time to change your mind ;)
 
I too would have waited a week or so to see how the A77 fares but enjoy your 7D. :thinking:

I have one thing to say so far - OMFG what the hell is that 'menu within a menu within a menu all about? ? ? by the time I got to the second level I felt like throwing myself out of the window. . . .

I'm sure I will suss it out eventually but 'really'. . . Not even had a chance to try it out yet :(

It,s not that bad david, you will soon suss it out, :nuts: the Q button is the one i access the most as i tend to shoot manual, really easy to change the most used settings. :thumbs:

The menu system is one of the biggest ballaches with Canon.
 
Coming from the Sony a900 it was a bit of a shock to say the least!

'Q' button is very similar to the 'fn' button on the Sony and that will get used a fair bit, just need to get a good set of 'base' settings sorted and saved (motorsport and general) and I will be happy then.

I guess for all that started on Canon it must seem simple - ah well it keeps the ole 'grey cells' active.

My Bold

I wondered what I had done when I first bought my 7d, it seemed far to complicated. But once you've used it for a while you'll be pleased you got it.

I also use the Q button quite a bit..... Works for me. :)
 
I had a look at the manual for the 7d and quickly realised how dreadful to use it would be for me. Manual isn't well written either. Drives my friend mad with hers. She misses so many shots while she's arsing round in the menu system.

I hope you're a faster learner than she is. She's had hers over a year and still can't work it properly :shake:
