Datacolor Spyder3Print-Anyone own one?

Hi,

Been looking at this device with interest as I'm having a hell of a time trying to print out a colour test sheet with both colour management turned off in Photoshop CS4(Which I can do) but not from my HP's printer driver(D7260) in order to get a custom profile made for my printer to provide me with more accurate prints from what I see onscreen. I already use a Pantone Huey with my iMac which works great...now I just need to get the printer side of things calibrated I'm using my own ink and paper choice.

Will this gadget help me out here? I'd rather borrow one than buy one as it's a lot of money to shell out for something I might only use once or twice. Does it work in the same manner where I need to have the colour management turned off on the printer in order for it to work, or does it just take the reading from the printers own print output and work from that?

I have just purchased the Pantone Huey Pro, calibrated my monitor using it and when i print i use the same profile that i created for the monitor and my prints have gone from nothing like my monitor to 95% what's on the screen. With a little adjustment on the printer settings i am around 97% of what's on the screen (good enough to sell). I am using an iMAC and a canon printer. I am printing from Lightroom as that's what i use mainly i only use CS4 for edits so i don't print from it.

Hi Richie,

Thanks for that reply, I did ask about doing that somewhere else but I was told that I would get inaccurate results. I was just working from the manner that If my monitor is calibrated, then why can't my printer use the monitors calibration settings(as in Lightroom 2) to print from being as there's the option to select the printers print source.
