Hi All,

Wondered if anyone has come across this before? My 400D won't take pictures. Once the shutter button is pressed, the screen goes black. Tried to turn the camera off and on again, but the power light remains on once the switch is turned to off? Anyone any ideas what's up? Ta, S

That would happen if I tried to load the spot metering/3200 ISO firmware hack. What I did was remove main battery, remove the secondary time+date battery, remove CF card. I left it for around 30 minutes while I recharged the main battery to full then inserted everything once again and it was fine.

Hope that helps.
Tom N.

P.S. I also formatted the CF card via my laptop whilst battery was charging.

Thanks Tom, trying it now, will let you know how I get on...

Never heard about the ISO hack - what does that do?

Kills your 400D again if you try it

I used to have a 400D with the same or similar problem. It turned out to be the compact flash card.. it wasn't faulty but had issues together. I think the card was a Lexar.

Worth a try anyhow.

Thanks Tom, your advice worked! That's a big sigh of relief! Thanks very much everyone for your comments, I think it might have been down to a Kingston CF, noticed this morning the 400D thought the CF could hold almost double the amount it should. Back to the Sandisks methinks. Don't think I'll bother with the hach tbh. Cheers, Si
