I'm looking to buy a tripod to replace my Hama traveller compact. Height wise 160cm max would do me fine although I'm not too fussed over height. I don't need anything higher than 160cm.

I need one that is very sturdy, robust and one with a ball head. My Hama tripod has taken a battering and the legs keep coming loose and I think it's time to go for something decent.

Can anyone suggest something?

If you want one to carry any distance you might have to revise your budget upwards a bit especially as it includes a head as well

very sturdy, robust
if you add light to the equation it ain't going to come in under a ton

I can't remember specifying a light tripod... I'm not considering a CF one.

Are the Redsnapper ones good? They are well priced.

I can't remember the model number of mine (it's packed away) but I paid £89.99 delivered, it can take the weight of a 1DX with a 100-400 mounted on it with no limp in the head or bending of the legs (sounds like a night out in Prague!) and I'm very chuffed with it, it also reverses so you can get right in when doing macro shots / UWA night sky shots etc :)

Do you not recall saying you wanted to replace your current tripod which weighs 1.37kg

That would infer a like for like replacement so my answer wasn't as outlandish as you seem to think it was.

In fairness though, he did also say this:

Thanks for the help guys. I quite like the look of the redsnapper ones. Do these last? And how sturdy are they?

The other tripod that tickles my fancy is a 190XPROB. Doesn't quite reach the same height but this would not bother me.

As a quick reply I would read the replies on the Redsnapper traders section on here. Oh and be careful as there is now a chinese company that are making conplete copies of their low price range, found some on ebay china last night, they were exactly the same apart from the decals but £16!!!
