Looking for a constant f2.8 zoom lens.......... with a pentax fit.

the obvious choice is a sigma 70-200 which incorporates a pretty large range of scenarios and opportunities, however chickens teeth and rocking horse poo is far more common............ and it's £650 if I can find one.......

Was thinking this focal length as obviously there is the canon 70-200 L and Nikkor 70-200 which are both very popular...........

Another option is a 50-150 which will fit reasonably well in between the 17-70 and 120-400 without too much overlap and is c. £250 less at £399 brand new - which allows me £200 or so for an additional flash, couple of light stands and a brolly...... the additional advantage is the lens is about 1/2 the size and 1/2 the weight of a 70-200......

How much will I miss the additional 50mm at the longer end??? - I guess just take a couple of paces closer......... though I guess will gain a bit at the shorter end as well.........

Will mainly be used for portraits / street / maybe some formal stuff in a few months time...............

Thoughts appreciated.........

I would go 50-150 . No full frame Pentax ( I may be wrong ) so no need to get the 70-200 with the future in mind ( 50-150 on a crop is roughly the same as 70-200 on full frame ) The 50 - 150 is also lightish and compact compared to the 70-200 .

The tamron 70-200 is also well regarded. If the 50-150 is the srs deal on the sigma, then I'd say go for it - it's a really good lens and a steal at that price.

I've owned a Sigma EX 50-150mm f/2.8 for a few years now..I can honestly say its one of the nicest lenses I've owned/used in over 30 years in photography..

The 50-150mm is light and compact, and in my opinion perfect for a crop sensor body.. It equates closely to the classic 80-200mm zoom..

well decisions made.................

It was the SRS deal, and as you say, a steal at £399 new and shipped.

Good points about no full frame Pentax, so the 50-150 becomes 75-225 anyway (I have talked myself out of the fact that 70-200 => 105 -300 which is way too long!!)
