I want to go for a WA or UWA, and have seen a few posts praising the Tokina 11-16 and 12-24 and have pretty much decided on the 11-16 as I think the extra stop may be handy indoors. That's well within budget (max budget would be £800 at a push) so I could go for Canon if I wanted to but I've read that the Tokina is actually better.

Is the Tokina 11-16 as good as it's cracked up to be? And are there many 2nd hand ones about, if I save a few quid I could get either another lens or a better body too possibly.

Cheers,
Pip

I've owned the Tokina 12-24mm and have nothing but good things to say about it. By all account s the 11-16mm seems to have a lot of praise, in all honesty I don't think I've seen anything negative written about it.

Go for it. ;)

Cheers sdb, definitely going to be making a purchase this week. They appear to be going around the £400 mark new, which may leave me a few pennies for something else too (just wish I could get this and the 100-400 that's just gone on the FS forum!)

Is it a recent lens? There doesn't seem to have been any sold on TP that I can find, and not many on thiefbay either?

It was released last year IIRC however I'd assume the reason you don't see many for sale is that it is a keeper lens.
