I'm in the lucky position to get a new camera for my birthday . I've never had a DSLR and have been practising more and trying to understand more with my quite good point and shoot ......with some good results I might add !
I want to photograph my dogs running when doing gundog work so I will need a fast shutter speed this I know .....
I want a camera that will grow with me as I learn , I dont want to spend a lot of money for it to be dated within a year or two .
I'm deciding between the Canon 600D as there is a good offer on at the moment and can get body and lens for £449 OR the Canon 7D which is mega wonga but I have the option of either as my OH would like to indulge me for my birthday .

The 7D is due for an upgrade sometime soon as it is a fairly old body, 2009 iirc so the 70D is a better choice as it has just come out. I'll be honnest I am not sure of the price difference between a new 7D and a new 70D as I haven't bought a body or had a need to look recently

How about a 2nd hand 7d...just upgraded to the 7d from the 600d and it's in a completely different league

I'd go for a 70D. 7D is a fine camera and very capable even now but the one constant critiscm of it is noise at higher ISO. Put me off buying one eventually.
