Just upgraded from my canon 350d 18-55mm *ick* kit to a shinyshiny new 40d, i brought the body only cos i wasn't sure about lenses. and i was too poor at the time to get both. Ha.
Anyways. My question. It's between two lens, basically. I have a budget of around £250 tops.
The two contenders:
24-85mm f3.5-4.5 EF usm lens. £226
or
17-85mm f4.5 EF-S usm lens. £240
The pros for the 24-85 is that it's a EF so when i upgrade again to a full frame i can keep the lens, whereas with the 17-85mm i couldn't as it's an EF-S. however I like the slightly wider-angle aspect of the 17mm. But there is the consideration of my ability to borrow good lens from my uni for another year and a half, so.. perhaps getting the 24mm as a standard and getting a wide-angle to supplement when i'm feeling flush.
