Deffusers for my flash gun

I use the Jessops 360AFD Flash gun, and im looking to buy some diffusers, I was wondering, do all fit any flash gun, or do i need to pick out a certain type so it will fit the head of mine?

If possible could people recommend me too to sites etc.

If it's the wee plastic "Stofen" type diffuser you're after then it takes, according to Stofen, the same diffuser as the Sony HVL-F36AM and HVL-F42AM (Stofen part number OM-PZ8)
 
I have the Jessops 320AFC flash gun and I made a simple diffuser from a £1.00 gadget I found in Poundland.

It is a white plastic ball with an led in the base which, when turned on, lets the plastic ball glow and cycle through different colour changes.

The plastic ball part is about 3" diameter and after throwing away the led parts if you cut the ball in half it then fits over the flash unit (sellotape may be needed).

And bingo - you have a simple cheap diffuser which I find ideal indoors to reduce the harsh flash look.

I like the Lambency diffusers (have I spent that right ?) see http://SPAM/62gq3q9, don't know what size you need though.

The Lambency are a rip off of the original Gary Fong, which sell for a lot more money.
They are not as subtle (in use) as the Stofens though.

At this point everyone normally piles in with suggestions involving cut down plastic milk bottles and the like.

There is always this guy http://www.abetterbouncecard.com/ but after watching his videos, you'd probably want to kill yourself.

Are the cheap ebay Sto-Fen copy Diffusers any good? or is it worth buying a genuine one?

They're fine, but like almost all diffusers/modifiers, they do nothing unless you have a surface to bounce off, eg ceiling. Outside for example, all they do is waste a ton of light.

The rule is, the bigger the light source, the softer the shadows. With a Stofen type accessory, the ceiling becomes your main light source, and then they send a small dash of light directly forward to the subject for fill-in, so you get big soft light from above, plus a nice bit of fill to lighten shadows under eyes and chins, and put a sparkle in the eyes.

They work very well in the right environment, though a simple bounce card (as per the link - he makes me smile ;) ) does pretty much the same thing, and with more control once you learn how to use it.

Take a look at Lumiquest. I think they make the best flash modifiers - I use a Lumiquest Quik Bounce which does most things really well, including being quite useful and efficient outside :thumbs: Check their tutorials too - factual and bull-crap free, and brief (unlike Mr Bouncecard :D). www.lumiquest.com

Buy the copies, I've got real ones and the Chinese copies and in the majority of cases can't see any difference. You'll find the odd one that might be of poor quality but most are good.
