Edit My Images
Yes
Hi everyone,

I am planning on proposing to my partner on an upcoming holiday at sunset on the beach.

I want to film the proposal and take images from it later.

I have these options:

  • Go Pro 10 - have not purchased this yet but thinking of buying one for the holiday and selling it after. It has the advantage of 5k filming for a bigger resolution image after but has a tiny sensor.
  • Canon EOS M3 - This has been in the cupboard a long time as I like to travel light.
  • Google Pixel 4a 5g

The pixel stands out as the easiest one as I will just need a small tripod which can slip into a bag. Although I am not sure if the tiny sensor will create issues or if Google's magic AI will take care of most of it.

What would you choose to do the job?

Take the Canon and a and one of the others , on such an important occasion it would be best to have a back up !

Personally I think any thought of filming this is madness.

Can't you just enjoy the moment?

At the very least you're going to have to set the kit up before proposing and then when you should be with your partner you're going to leave them to turn the kit off?

IMO... Madness.

Just my VHO :D Good luck with it and I hope they say Yes :D

I was just going to pretend to be getting it setup for a photo , the kit can keep rolling for however long doesn't really matter.

I do get your point in enjoying the moment I just like to look back at videos / photos to help me relive the moment

OK. I think this would be better if you had someone to turn the kit off and collect it as do you really want to leave your partner to fiddle with kit just after you've proposed?

I get that you want to record this but I do think you'll have to be careful to at least not take the shine off this moment and leave your partner when you really should be together. Get a mate or a waiter or taxi driver or someone to turn the kit off and bag it up and just hand the bag to you and at the very least remember that this is a special moment and keep the kit fiddling and fondling to an absolute minimum.

None of the above.

The sensible thing to do would be to hire a professional photographer who specialises in proposals there are plenty around.

Could there be a ‘No!’ answer…?

GoPros are supprisingly good. I shot a wedding for channel 4 on one a few years back (very long complicated story) and that was a hero 4 black. The service video blended into the rest of the program fine, it was pretty much impossible to tell it was shot on a gopro and not the pro cameras they used for the rest of the program.

Go pro just left on record if you have to record it but you dont need the video or pictures to remember it. It shoudl be etched in your memory for the rest of your life.

I have grabbed a frame from a video of mine using a Panasonic HC-X1500 pro camcorder shooting 4K. Have to say I have serious doubts what you can extract from any of the above out of a video clip that would be any good as a still on what you are using

However it depends on how you intend to get the frame out of the video clip. Depending on equipment you can either try and extract via using a monitor to freeze frame and go print screen, or as I have done below =replay frame by frame in camcorder and hit the camera button on screen

below live video replay on camcorder showing camera to touch to grab frame (rough example only to show camera icon)

Adam this will be a special moment for both of you so get someone else to video and take stills

I would've thought fondling during a proposal was a no-no....

I'd have thought it almost essential, or maybe saved till after if the answer was yes. ;)

To me, if you MUST do it then minimum effort/hassle should be involved, so use the gopro. But better to just carefully pick your moment without worrying about kit.

Thinking of hiring a private boat now at sunset, might l wack the GoPro on something and leave it recording.

But I might not bother at all after everyone's comments and just get a photo afterwards

We don't randomly delete posts because people don't like answers.
Although a "please can you" does go a long way ....
