dell 2709 for photo editing?

Hi,

There are some rather good offers on the above 27 inch screen at the moment and im wondering if it will make a good monitor for photo editing. From what i can see its a pva based screen so should be decent colour wise. Nice and big which is good for viewing photos at a decent size.

Im not specifically looking for a 27 inch screen just happened to see some offersm was looking at 24 inch screens before i came across this one. What do people think of it? Does anyone have one that could give me some insite into how good/bad it is?

If anyone has any other uggestions or recomendations then fire away.

I really need to make a decision on this by the end of the weekend to any help would be great.

edit 3 - this screen has the same resolution as most 24 inch screens so does this make much of a difference?
 
depends how bothered you are about colour acuracy.

I wouldn't get a dell if i was a pro. Look at pro monitors and if you are gna get a dell make sure you propperly calibrate it.

Thanks for the advice. I am not a pro by any means of the imagination. I currently work on a dell 20.1 widescreen which has server me pretty well. It seems the dells get very good reviews for graphics and editing work so im not sure why you are saying you wouldnt get one?

Of course i have had a brief look at some of the high end monitors like the eizo but frankly i just dont have that sort of cash to be throwing at a monitor.

Any other suggestions people? You guys must all be working on various different monitors so what do you recomend?
 
Well I have a cheapish 22" monitor, but I'm not too bothered, if like you say your not a pro then im sure a dell will be fine, however there are other options, www.overclockers.co.uk have a good range of of well priced monitors.

But I'd be tempted to still invest in a callibrator, if you can afford it anyway.

Yeah agreed for sure about the calibrator. I have been checking out ocuk amongst others for monitors but its hard to find actual user reviews of some models. Been looking at the hazro and the new hp both s-ips panels. Just seem to be various issues with both that are putting me off. Would be nice to get some actual user reviews of various screens that people are using to help people inc myself who are looking for new monitors.

Yes as i say i do browse there quite a lot. Not many of them mention requirements for photo editing specifically. Anyway thanks for your help and suggestions so far :thumbs:

Excellent, do you see much difference between the two? Does the newer one seem any better? What device did you use for calibration?
 
i think the older is better but not much in it and i use a spyder 2

Tis a great site, thanks for the suggestion. I have found it useful reading the indepth reviews. I guess its a tough one when you spend a lot of cash on anything you want to make sure you get the best you can. The dell is certainly good value, 27 inch pva screen for 400 quid ish. I have noticed however i can get the hp lp 2475w 24 inch screen which is s-ips screen for about the same price and it has the same resolution as the dell. Briefly looked at the hazros but they seem to have too many issues so have ruled them out. I just cant seem to seperate the dell and hp.

My head hurts :bang:
 
I know dell have a zero bright pixel policy, not sure what HP are like on dead pixels - could be the deciding factor - although there's always the distance selling regs for returning a monitor with dead pixels :thumbs:
