I am uploading a widows live program from a memory stick, my problem is it is taking for ever to do, does anyone have a reason why this might be? op system is XP Pro could it be a memory problem.John

is it usb 1.1 perhaps (slow)
This would be my guess - my old Dimension 8200 was USB 1.1. The problem was solved by fitting a USB 2.0 PCI card, which cost about a tenner off ebay.
The original ports remain USB 1.1 but can be used for ancillaries like the mouse and keyboard, while the ports on the card are used for anything that requires large amounts of data transfer

I have put a usb 2.0 PCI card in Mike it has four usb sockets on the outside and 2 additional on the card inside the tower unit so because they are covered I am not using plus using them with my memory stick to download anything from it does not go any faster, any ideas would be appreciated from the knowledgable pc buffs on here :bang: :shrug:

Have you checked to make sure the card driver's installed properly? Is the problem isolated to that memory stick or does it do it with others too?

Just a thought but are you plugging straight into the USB socket on the PCI card or using a USB extension lead so you dont have to reach for the back?
I had this really old USB extension lead a few years ago that for some reason seemed to only register anything I plugged in as a slow USB device. I didnt think cables were specific, maybe there was a fault with cable or it had different pinouts, but when tried a different lead, it was ok. As I say, just a thought.
