Dell Mini 10?

Yes
I'm after a netbook and my key requirements are web browsing, clear screen and decent keyboard. I don't need HD video, photo editing or gaming capabilities. Long battery life is not essential (but all things being equal might be useful).

I keep coming back to the Dell Mini 10 range (because of value) but in general the reviews for it don't look anywhere near as favourable as say for the Asus or Samsung ranges.

Any comments from Dell Mini users or should I be looking at other brands? :help:

I've got a mini 10 with the 1366x768 screen and I've changed the hard drive for a solid state drive. I've previously owned Asus, MSI and Advent netbooks and seriously reckon this is the best.

The Latitude L2100 is a tempter but it's coming in at £130 more than a Mini 10...

GrumpyB - what option or model is it that gives you the 1366x768 screen or is this a US model?

I bit the bullet and ordered the Dell Mini 10 today with the 10 inch 1366x768 screen. It comes with bluetooth, wireless and a TV tuner (is that useful these days??) for £259 delivered and about £14 cashback from Quidco so hopefully not too bad a deal!

Yes, the Dell website - where the Mini 10 range must be about the most confusing going

On the Dell website there is the old Mini 10 range and the new range (the new range is called....new). The only version that allows the upgrade to the HD screen is one of the "old" ones with the Z530 processor. From what I've read, the negative with this specific model is that it is not possible to upgrade from 1GB RAM (although that wasn't necessary for what I wanted) and it was only supplied with XP (which actually may be more of a positive).

Personally, I prefer the look of the "old" Mini 10s to the new one - the latter looks a bit blobby where they've had to incorporate the 6 cell battery.

I wanted the higher resolution purely to get more "stuff" on the screen. I've used netbooks before where you're constantly scrolling sideways to see web pages - the HD option gives 40% more pixels so it should help a bit. And it has an HDMI output, so useful for connecting to the TV.

As an aside, when the "new" Mini 10s were released a few weeks ago, there was an HD screen option - but this only lasted for a few days and was withdrawn from the site. It's possible it may make a reappearance if it was withdrawn for commercial rather than technical reasons?
