Hi folks, I have 2 x Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW circa 2005 which in the day were £800 bits of kit, there reviews were always top notch as a rule, but 6 years on they don't look sharp or particularly colourful they never calibrate well with spyder 3 pro always leaving a blue cast when calibrated, or a faint yellow cast if not. I look at the apple cinema screens with envy for client display purposes (i know they are punched up etc) and I was wondering has technology moved on that much, and would a change to the well reviewed ultrasharp u2311h give me what im after, bright sharp punchy images? is it comparable to the apple cinema display, settings taken into account? Or would there be no real difference to what I have? I would like the apple picture without the product :) thanks for any thoughts you may have. cheers

Personally I wouldn't touch the cinema screens. Clues in the name, glossy screens give and artificial contrasty picture. A matte IPS panel such as some of the dell range will be ideal.

exactly right, I just picked up a Dell U2711 IPS and it is wonderful. Shiney screens look nice, as do LED's but for colour quality IPS is the way.
 
These 2 from Harzo use exactly the same screens as the Apple Cinema display, if you want glossy this is exactly the same as the Apple LED IPS

dONT BE FOOLED BY THE CHEAP PRICE, Dell and Apple charge a premium for their name, however the Dell has more inputs than the Hazro
 
Thanks guys, im not after a apple screen or a gloss screen but would like to create punchy images on screen which my current monitors do not seem able to do! Im afraid the Harzo's r out of my budget but the name don't frighten me :) thanks again

The Dell U2711 isnt an LED screen
 
Never said it was, LED refers to the backlighting used and not the screen, they both use the exact same LG screen but the Dell used double CCFL backlighting where the Apple uses LED's and both the Hazro's also use LED's for backlighting

Its a small but distinct difference and Dells use of old CCFL technology is what lets them down with the age old problems of backlight bleed, pink tinting issues and issues with brighter on one side than the other and from top to bottom, you simply dont get these issues with LED backlighting as its very much more evenly distributed than CCFL.
 
So my old fpw 2405 vs u2311h can I expect sharper images on screen with the 23" ips screens
?
