Device driver not found: ‘MSCD001

Having replaced the hard drive oh my son laptop I eventually got a bootable copy of vista (legal) but when I try to install I get
Device driver not found: ‘MSCD001
No valid CDROM device drivers selected
I have a bootable diagnostic disk that boots fine and can see the hard drive
Anyone got an idea as to what I need to do to get the OS installed Please!

Hi Paul,

Can you see the cd rom in bios?

If you cannot see it in Bios, on but up do you have the option to boot via usb, if you do might be worth g%%gling to see if you can install via usb flash drive.

What make is the laptop?

Is that booting from the cd? That sounds like a really old dos method of loading cd drive drivers..

It’s a Toshiba satellite a300 f2 key shows cdrom drive and hdd diagnostic disk will boot fine but vista disk gets the error message

Change the boot order to boot the cd first. It sounds like there is something left over from an old version of windows maybe?

It sounds like its trying to use the mscdex.exe which is only needed by older operating systems

Is the HDD diagnostics a CD ?

Vista is on a DVD is your drive a DVD reader or just a CD reader ?
