Devizes and Calne Camera Clubs

Hi

Have not been to either of those Chris but I have been to camera clubs in the past and I can confirm I got out alive without too many cuts and bruises lol

Hi Stew,

Seems there are two schools of thought. Some find them really helpful and others as you suggest find them, well how can we say, very bad!

Trying to discover if either of these will be worth joining.

Chris

Hi Chris

Did not really intend to come over meaning that. I was (badly) suggesting you pop along and meet them - I am sure you will survive lol

Hi Stew,

May be worth a visit. I cannot see when the Devizes one meets, but the Calne one meets on a Monday so that will be easy.

I have heard stories of digital togs being shunned. Like when in the Lakes we met a couple of old boys who said they were togs but with 'real' 5 x 4 cameras. One said he had looked at digital and they were rubbish. I tried to explain that things had changed in recent years, but the veil of 'I know best' came over them. So I passed the time of day and moved on!

Regards

Chris

If it's good I might join you! Always been very unsure of them, often get the write ups in the local paper about their 'events' and it's been things like "86 year old George spent the evening showing his slides from his trip to the Grand Canyon", which if you like that sort of thing - fine, but it would bore me to tears.

wow, I thought all that was a thing of the past.I was one of the first social photographers to go digital in our area and I can remember the scorn from most other pros who said digital would never catch on.

I can also remember seeing an image from the 17 megapixel Eos 1ds Mk2 and thinking it was equal, if not better to the images we used to get from our Sinar P2 5x4.

I wonder what Ansel Adams would be using if he was still here?

I wish there were a photography club in our area that I could go to .... I would even risk the odd bite lol.

Jenny.

Hi Chris,

Fancy an exploratory visit on Monday?

Hi All,

Went to Calne CC last night and guess what? They don't bite!

Really nice crowd of mixed age and I arrived on the best night as they had a guest judge looking at their monthly competition.

Will certainly go next week if I am available.

Had a similar conversation to that recently with someone that was getting up my nose. My parting statement was something like:

"I totally agree that film is a much better choice for you, afterall many many people get confused at the advanced features available with digital and prefer to keep things simple."

Needless to say that was a conversation killer. :D

Hi Kalibre,

That's great! Will try to remember it.

Glad you enjoyed it there. I've met loads of camera club folks over the years and to be frank, not liked what I've seen on nearly all those cases. The guys at CCC are a really good bunch and there are some pretty talented snappers there too.

Hi dazzajl,

Are you in the club?

Got to say I really enjoyed myself and look forward to going next week.

Chris

Aha..... found this one again.

I'm not a member there as being in one place at the same time most weeks seems to be more than I can manage most of the time. They have been nice enough to invite me to talk and judge a few times and I've always had a great time. Even if I do hate having to rate one shot against another.
