It's not very urgent but I'm going to Devon later this month and i would like to have a few places of interest to go to with my DSLR ready on the Sat-nav. Does anybody know of any places around the Bideford (North Devon) Area? If so, please could you give some suggestions. I would like any *photography* types of interest but I'm looking specifically for wildlife areas where there are some birds or animals to photograph... Thanks :) I've tried looking for some places on the internet but I'm not having any luck :bonk:
Any scenic areas would be appreciated too.

I would have a look at Dartmoor and the surrounding areas, it's massive and you'll find plenty of wildlife there, just my suggestion.

Well depending how much time you have, you're not far from Exmoor, the whole if which is beautiful for either landscapes or wildlife! Haven't been for a while so can't recommend specific parts though.

You can also look near bideford on http://www.devonwildlifetrust.org/map/

There's an RSPB reserve in Ilfracombe http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/c/chapelwood/about.aspx - parking on side of the road according to the website.

If you nose on forestry commission website you may find 1 or 2 sites nearby too :)

Hope that's some help, sorry I can't be more specific :)

Braunton sands
Woolacombe
Bude
Sandymouth Bay

There's a few for ya!

Hi

Try the rugged coastline around Hartland. I lived for years in the Speeks valley. The stream that runs through it ends with a spectacular waterfall on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Its easy to check the area out with Google Earth. Have a good trip.

Get yourself up around Lynton and Lynmouth absolutely beautiful area. You will love it. Food is good too.

Difficult to suggest specific wildlife areas.

Upper Tamar Lake has a bird hide, http://www.devonbirds.org/node/303 , but I’ve not been there.
This link shows various locations near Upper Tamar Lake if you do go that way.

There’s Marsland nature reserve near Welcombe, http://www.devonwildlifetrust.org/reserve/Marsland/

You can get onto the coast at Welcombe Mouth, used to be a bad gravel track, not sure now. Little waterfall onto beach but probably dull in summer with little rain.

All the coast is pretty spectacular, Hartland Quay is good, Clovelly is “cute” but touristy.

If you go to the coast be VERY careful of the tides, they are extremely high and hence quick rising,

All these are to the West of Bideford.

wave at me if you come down to Bude, I'll go play landscapes with you, we have a marsh thing for birds but that kinda stuff bores me to tears so can't be much help :p
also I know the pubs ;)

East of Barnstaple there’s Wistlandpound reservoir, http://www.discoverwistlandpound.org.uk/

Lynton and Lynmouth are good with nearby;
Valley of Rocks (Feral Goats) and a looong drop from Castle Rock.
the River Lyn Gorge beside the Lynmouth museum.
Watersmeet off the A39 is good with rapids and little waterfalls, also common garden birds hop around the tables.

The A39 from Lynmouth to Porlock has good views, all the hills around Lynton are 1:4 with lanes in wooded valleys, good road over Dunkery Beacon.

There are Red Deer on Exmoor but unlikely to get close. And Wild Boar.

Tarr Steps

If you’ve got loads of time you can drive the A39 from Bridgewater through Dunster, but you’ll probably go nuts at this time of year behind caravans.
