Difference between flikr and photobucket

I find that PB severely reduces colour.

I said this in another thread (about the quality being reduced on PB) but was told I was uploading the wrong size.
Even though I tried different sizes, it made no difference, the quality suffered.
I just use PB as a storage medium, just as backup.

I used to host most of my pics on PB, but wasn't happy with the quality, especially any with red in them. I tried flickr and, like you say, the difference is marked!

To the best of my knowledge PB resizes images above 1024px on the longest side, so what you're seeing is a really badly resized image, hence the degradation. I don't use flickr so can't do the comparison myself, but images I've posted here which are on PB haven't suffered the obvious loss of fine detail in the manner above. Example:

Goldfinch02Nov2013_zps7c5931d8.jpeg~original

I'm happy to be proved wrong, if you care to repeat the expt with the images as presented above - say about 800X600 as they appear in the forum.

I've always used PB for sharing images on forums and have never had a problem with it, but then again I don't store any images on there above 1024 pixels wide.

Thats a beautiful image, this is getting confusing for me now. But I will try resizing as you say.

Still can't find the BB code in flikr, I feel really stupid now.

Still cant find the BB link on Flikr, has anyone got any ideas, have read the FAQ section, but when I clik on the share symbol, the correct link format does not show.

Open the picture you want to post in Flickr, you'll see a wee box at the bottom with a hand pointing to it (it says more ways to share when you hover over it), click that. Then make sure the BB code is highlighted and cut ans paste the text in the text box and put it in your post.

Show us a screen grab of fickr where you are trying to get the code, this will show us which version you are using then we should be able to help

There is no hand at bottom of photo, see screen grab above.

It's the one you've got showing on your screen grab. Your Flickr layout is different from mine.

Ok, will try that

Success, but how do you get
DSC_0239 by andrewwright4, on Flickr to appear at the bottom.

I think that Flickr are moving away from that :) to be honest it's not something I am that bothered it that shows or not just so long as the photo actually shows :)

Its a miracle to me getting the photo to show, what a nightmare, still at least its sorted, and I class myself as fairly computer literate, amazing how the smallest things can stump you.
I would like to thank all replies in helping me in this matter, thankyou all.

It certainly used to be part of Flickr's Community Guidelines that you include a link pack to the photo page when posting off-site.

Indeed it did, but strictly speaking the new version of the bbcode still links back to Flickr it has just remove stuff that wasn't exactly critical in the first place lol

Andrew: how curious about the difference in images. Can I ask how you are uploading to PB and flickr? Some programs offer automated upload, and I wonder if that could have something to do with it?

Hi, In PB I just clik on the blue box which says upload, sometimes I upload one file, and sometimes I might do a bulk upload. Usually its a single file. On Flikr I clik load on top line, then upload in pink box in middle of the screen.
