After much procrastination I bought a DSLR last year, spending a modest amount of money on a Nikon D40x. The intention was to use it in conjunction with my Olympus OM2, keeping the Olympus along with my processing and printing equipment for more 'serious' photography. The reality is that during the last twelve months I've shot one film, so maybe it's time to reluctantly bid farewell to yesterday's technology. Then what?
One option is to sell everything including the Nikon, which has been useful as a learning tool, and buy.......? One thought is a Canon 30D. I know that technology has moved on since their introduction but I don't automatically assume that the latest is the best. Down this route, any lens suggestions? Another thought is to keep my Zuiko prime lenses and buy an Olympus. I've read some good reviews of the E510. I don't care what name the camera has on it; it's potential for taking good quality pictures is higher on my list of requirements. Not sure which way to go. Any advice please?
 
If your older lenses are crisp and well kept.. keep using them via adapters.

The rest is up to you. Usual advice is go to somewhere where you can hold the cameras (as many as possible) to feel the weight and see the menu structures, button positions etc.

If you take in one of you oly lenses and the store may let you put it on a newer camera to see how it looks (thinking more m4/3 olympus models rather than adapters).

Rest is handling and your budget.

If you are interested in a specific camera, see whether there is a tp meet local to you - if one of the members will let you you might be able to play. Most of the entry models use sd cards so you could bring one along and store the pics on to review later. Then if you like the pics and the handling you'll know which camera is for you. :)

Hi Dave,

If you're like many of us on here you will dabble in digital and then realise that you still love film and like me, end up using both.
If I was in your position I would go with the Olympus E510 and use those beautiful Zuiko lenses, keep the OM2 because you know you want to and have the best of both worlds.
