My girlfriend Emma is thinking about replacing her old Minolta Dynax 404SI (over 10 years old now).

She is not sure which Digital Camera would end up producing more or less the same image quality as her existing camera. She would probably think of getting a Nikon as I have one and we could share lenses.

Most of her photography is travel photography, some landscapes, details of things. Nearly always outdoor. She doesn't need live view/ video capturing.

If she is used to Minolta, how about considering a Sony? The A200,A230 are pretty good value. Nikon wise, if you have AF S lenses, you could consider the D60/D3000/. There is a D40X on here for £200 incl extras. I've just bought a Nikon D70S, mainly because it was cheap and will AF on lenses without the motor.

I think it would be easier for both of us if she buys a nikon, so we can share lenses. I have the 35mm f/1.8 and the 18-105mm which I think are both AF-S.

We were having a look earlier and quite liked the look of the D40 or maybe D40X. Might try to pick one up second half although she's still deciding if she really really wants to move from film to digital.

Thanks for your help.
