Digitizing & Printing Valuable Slides

I have around 100 slides that have never been printed and that are extremely valuable in terms of content.

I'd like to put them onto my PC and also print some, but I won't risk sending them away for fear of them being lost (or copied) so I need to look for a printer that will allow me to create files and print.

As there are only around 100, I'd rather not spend a huge amount of money, but naturally I want quality copies.

Could anyone suggest some good and inexpensive printers.

Thank you in advance. :)

To digitise slides or negatives, you'll need a scanner rather than a printer. There are 2 main types of "domestic" scanners, flatbeds (mainly used for scanning sheets of paper such as photos or documents but some have the capability to scan film) and dedicated film scanners (which can only scan films - some can handle several formats, others stick to 35mm).

Depending on the final use of the digital image, a flatbed with film scanning capability may do a good enough job - I have an elderly (in computer hardware terms!) Canoscan 8000 which does a pretty good job but for higher quality scans, I use a KonikaMinolta DiMage Scan Dual IV film scanner which delivers slightly better results.

I'll leave it to others to recommend more modern equivalents since I now have no real idea about the latest scanners of either type.

Hi Nod

Thanks for the reply. :)

Sorry I should have perhaps have said scanner printer but thought they were one and the same these days or is that not the case?
i.e. both functions from one unit?

You can get all-in-one units but I'm not sure if any of them offer film scanning. I'm a great believer in seperate devices for different jobs so if the scanner packs in, I can still print and vice versa. I know the all-in-ones save a little desk space but that's the only advantage I can see in them.
