No
torn between the nikon 17-55 2.8 around £500-700 s/hand
or nikon 24-70 2.8 around £800 - 1000 s/hand
i might jump to ff at a later date so which one:bonk::bonk::bonk:

Due to owning a camera with a screw driven motor available in it, consider the older nikon 28-70 F2.8 as thats a FX lens also with great image quality and its built like a tank. Falls within the 17-55 budget wise for a good copy.

It's an AF-s lens anyway so will work on anything. Agree that it's a stonking lens though. Every bit a match for the 24-70 in all but range.

IMO, since you're considering the jump to FF (don't dither, do it - you won't regret it once the shock of the initial expenditure has passed!), there is absolutely no point at all in buying a Dx only lens. Since I was still a 35mm user until I bought my D700, I have made sure that all my lenses have been FF (or, at least 35mm film) compatible, so had only the expense of purchasing the kit with none of the extra to upgrade lenses to FF. I even parted with my dearly beloved 18-70, the kit lens that came with my D70, when I sold my D200 to my brother in law.
